The Art of Tango Turn Workshop

 

50 years ago Mingo Pugliese revolutionised the dance by creating the ‘Estructura de Giro en 8’ – a turning structure that not only organises movement but unlocks endless possibilities on the dancefloor.
This workshop is for leaders and followers and is aimed at social dancers who want to refine their technique. It will take place on Saturday 29 March at 12 Surrey Road South Yarra from 6 – 7:30pm. The workshop will be conducted by Bill Jarman of Tango Bajo and Leonel Colque of Leonel Victoria Tango, two of Melbourne’s best teachers collaborating to share their collective tango wisdom. $70 per couple or $40 per individual. Workshop participants will also be entitled to a reduced price entry of $20 into BIlz Milonga which starts at 8pm.

Are you ready to take your tango to the next level? The Tango Challenge is a unique workshop designed to refine your fundamentals and elevate your dance technique. Whether it’s walking with confidence, mastering turns, embracing the pause, or deepening your musicality, this workshop will help you build a solid foundation for improvising with ease in social dancing.
Guided by Leonel, we’ll explore the beauty of tango together, working on precision, expression, and connection. The goal?
Dance with clarity, fluidity, and confidence—both as individuals and as a community. When we improve ourselves, we uplift those around us. Let’s inspire and be inspired, pushing past our fears and embracing the limitless possibilities of our dance.
This challenge is about growth, not perfection. I’ll push you, but more importantly, I hope to inspire you—just as I was inspired by the incredible maestros Gabriel Angio and Natalia Games, as well as the vibrant tango community and DJs I encountered in Korea.
Join us every Monday, starting February 3rd, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Let’s gather together to practice before the milonga!
Join us for a unique and immersive tango practice event tailored for leaders guided by Leonel. This two-hour session is designed to enhance your tango skills by exploring leading and following roles.
Under Leonel’s guidance, you’ll dive into the intricacies of tango, gaining a deeper understanding of the dance’s dynamics. Leaders will have the rare opportunity to experience the follower’s perspective, fostering empathy and improving overall connection. This dual approach not only refines your technique but also enriches your interpretation and responsiveness on the dance floor.
The practice session will include structured exercises, partner rotations, and personalised feedback, ensuring each participant receives focused attention. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or looking to elevate your tango, this event promises to be both challenging and rewarding.
