Invited Guest Teachers Bio

Kate Reilly (Ballet)
Originally from Newcastle NSW, Katie moved to Germany at age 16 to undertake a professional dance education at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart. Strongly influenced by her teacher Ute Mitreuter-Russo, Kate’s teaching style follows the Russian (Vaganova) method which is widely regarded as the best training system in the world.
After dancing for six years in Germany, Kate returned to Australia to pursue teaching studies. She moved to Melbourne to study the Russian ballet teaching method under Robert Ray and Janne Blanche at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Kate was contracted in the role of Dance Presenter by Out There-The Australian Ballet in Schools to teach and present dance in primary schools throughout Victoria. Until 2008 she continued to dance professionally, traveling to Vienna to rehearse with the Vienna State Opera Ballet for Andres Riu’s World Stadium Tour.
Kate opened Melbourne School of Classical Dance (MSCD) in 2008 and at that time gave up her performance career to dedicate her time and expertise to developing her students, some of whom are now pursuing vocational studies into The Australian Ballet School and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
