SUMMARY:Argentine Folklore Workshop & Practica
DESCRIPTION:Prepare for an extraordinary ‘Folklore’ Workshop with José Argañarás y Reanna Willis on Sunday, 17th September!\n\nWhat is Folkloric?\n\nChacarera is a dance and music that originated in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. It is a folk music genre that, for many Argentines, serves as a rural counterpart to the cosmopolitan imagery of Tango. It is a lively, playful, choreographed courtship dance, popular at gatherings and large festivals.\nZamba (very different to samba) is a slower and more elegant folkloric dance from Tucuman (150km to the northwest of Santiago del Estero). Also, in a courtship dance in Zamba, dancers circle each other, waving handkerchiefs.\nThe music for both these styles typically features guitar, Bombo (an African drum made of a hollowed-out tree and goat’s skin) and harmonised vocals. The songs usually speak of the beauty of the countryside, the women who live there, nostalgia for a town or simpler rural life, historical events, or political protest.\nIt is great to expand our dance repertoire. You never know when some Chacarera or Zamba might be played at a milonga! No more sitting and watching for us!\nCome and join us for what will be a very entertaining, wonderful and fun-filled afternoon \n\nBring it on, José y Reanna \n\nWorkshop & Practica\nTime: 1 pm – 4.30 pm\nCost: $40 per person (inclusive of afternoon tea)\nBookings preferred\nMeg 0419 826 061\nVenue:\nMartha House\n(Room 18 on the Dominion Rd side of the building)\n466 Esplanade, Mount Martha\n\n\n
